Peg (Sausen) Desendorf ‘82
Badminton & Softball Player
Hometown: Wilmington, DE
High School: St. Marks

Although West Chester University no longer offers the
varsity program of women’s badminton, Peg (Sausen)
Desendorf’s career on the courts of West Chester State
College left a lasting impression in Golden Ram Country.

Desendorf was dominating in the sport, never losing a
singles match in four years of competition. During her tenure
at West Chester, Desendorf captured the PAIAW Singles
Championships from 1979-81, won both the Eastern Intercollegiate
Singles and Doubles Championships also from 1979-
81, and won the U.S. Intercollegiate Nationals Consolation
Singles and Doubles tournament in 1980. In 1980, she received
the Wheelan & Wheelan Award as the PAIAW Badminton
Player of the Year.

Desendorf also played softball at West Chester where she
was a starter all four of her seasons on the varsity team. She
carried her badminton career to Ursinus College where she
coached the Bears’ program from 1982-84.

The Wilmington, Delaware, native has stayed close to
home and in the field of athletics. She currently serves as the
Assistant Athletic Director and the Junior Varsity Field
Hockey Coach at Ursuline Academy in Wilmington. Since
1997, she has served as the Assistant Director of the LPGA
Urban Youth Golf Program Pro-Am.
