A standout field hockey player at West Chester in the mid-1970’s,
Pat Stauffer was instrumental in leading the Golden Rams to their
first three AIAW National Championships (1975-77).
As a three-year starter during those title years, Stauffer’s team
never lost a game at West Chester (55-0-12). In 1977, she served as a
team captain, while her leadership and field hockey skills earned her
a place on the U.S. Field Hockey Squad from 1976-78.
In 1978, Stauffer joined the touring team to the Carribbean and also
earned a silver medal at the U.S. Olympic Festival in Colorado Springs.
In 1981, she accepted the head coaching position at Virginia Commonwealth
University in Richmond, Virginia, where she mentored on the field until
1993.
She became the winningest field hockey coach (135-100-13) in VCU history,
while her 1992 and 1993 squads were both nationally ranked. In 1994, Stauffer
became the assistant athletic director for Olympic Sports at VCU.
