Pat Stauffer '78
Field Hockey Player & Coach
Hometown: East Petersburg, PA
High School: Hempfield

A standout field hockey player at West Chester in the mid-1970’s, Pat Stauffer was instrumental in leading the Golden Rams to their first three AIAW National Championships (1975-77).

As a three-year starter during those title years, Stauffer’s team never lost a game at West Chester (55-0-12). In 1977, she served as a team captain, while her leadership and field hockey skills earned her a place on the U.S. Field Hockey Squad from 1976-78.

In 1978, Stauffer joined the touring team to the Carribbean and also earned a silver medal at the U.S. Olympic Festival in Colorado Springs. In 1981, she accepted the head coaching position at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, where she mentored on the field until 1993.

She became the winningest field hockey coach (135-100-13) in VCU history, while her 1992 and 1993 squads were both nationally ranked. In 1994, Stauffer became the assistant athletic director for Olympic Sports at VCU.
