Diamond Barbieri was a four-year member of the West
Chester State College women’s lacrosse team from 1972-
75. Barbieri guided the Golden Rams to four consecutive undefeated
seasons and served as team co-captain her senior
year.
A 1975 graduate of West Chester, Barbieri also competed
for the highly successful Golden Rams field hockey team.
Known for her prolific goal scoring, Barbieri was a threetime
All-College First Team selection as a lacrosse player at
West Chester (1973-75). She was also a recipient of the Beth
Allen Award for outstanding play and sportsmanship at the
National Tournament.
Her success at West Chester catapulted Barbieri to a roster
spot on the United States Women’s Lacrosse squad where
she played on numerous touring teams at the National and
International level for the next 10 years.
She was the youngest member of the undefeated 1975
team to England, and co-captained the team that won the
first Women’s World Cup in 1982. Barbieri was named to the
All World Team.
Barbieri went on to a successful coaching career at Springfield-
Delco High School, her alma mater, and was later named
the Director of Girls Athletics at the Penn Charter School
where she is credited with starting the girl’s field hockey and
lacrosse programs.
After moving to New Jersey, she continued teaching and
coaching at Drew University and The Pingry School. Barbieri
has also been inducted into the Springfield High School Hall
of Fame, as well as the Penn Charter Athletic Honor Society.
