Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell
Head Golf Coach, 1958-78
Hometown: Slippery Rock, PA
High School: Slippery Rock

During his two-decade reign as the West Chester State golf coach, Dr. Edwin Cottrell registered a dual-meet record of 202-69-1. In 1968 and 1969, West Chester put together back-to-back 14-1 seasons (with a tie in 1969) and claimed the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship both years. His best season took place in 1977 when his club turned in a 16-0 performance.

Under his guidance, Ed Kenyon, Larry Moore, Mike Daugherty and Gary Daniels all flourished and won PSAC titles. In 1954, Cottrell arrived at West Chester to assume the role of professor and associate dean in the school of Health & Physical Education.

A WWII fighter pilot who flew 65 combat missions over Germany, Cottrell served with the 48th Fighter Group during the war. In 1987 he received the Joe Graffius award from the National Golf Foundation (presented for the educational development of golf). In 1991, Cottrell was inducted into the Golf Coaches of America Hall of Fame.
