Upon his arrival in 1927, Earle "Muddy" Waters,
a graduate of Syracuse University, brought a new dimension to West
Chester. He was a key member of the Department of Health and Physical
Education, serving as a class advisor; faculty, state, regional
and national committee member; and as head coach for men’s
soccer, gymnastics and track & field. In all of these assignments,
Waters brought recognition and honor to West Chester.
On the soccer field, Waters’ teams produced seven undefeated
seasons, two National Championships and a 174-28-12 career record.
His track and field teams won numerous conference titles and
individual championships.
Waters was the founder and former president of the National
Collegiate Soccer Coaches Association. In 1991, he was inducted
into the NSCAA Hall of Fame.
