A four-year swimmer with the West Chester women’s swimming team, Denise M. (Bolich) Hopely’s career began with the 1975-76 campaign. She was a member of the 1976 National Division I Swim Team and was selected to the Eastern Division I Swim Team throughout her four-year career.

Hopely’s leadership took over the squad in 1978 and 1979 when she served as the team’s captain. Entering West Chester in the fall of 1975, Hopely’s outstanding high school career coupled with her excellent grades made her West Chester’s first full scholarship athlete. She recorded numerous records during her career, earned scholar-athlete honors in 1979, and graduated cum laude with a degree in health & physical education in 1979.
