Dr. Arnold Jackson retired as the assistant principal of William Penn
Senior High School at the conclusion of the 1992-93 academic year, but
it was his beginnings as a track & field student-athlete at West Chester
from 1954-57 that helped shape his career.
Jackson was a nine-time Pennsylvania State College Champion during
his tenure as a Golden Ram. He dominated the 100-yard dash from 1954-57,
winning the title every season he competed. From 1955-57, Jackson
was a three-time champion in the 220-yard dash. As a junior he set
the Pennsylvania State College record with a time of 21.5.
Jackson was also proficient in the 220 low hurdles, winning the
State College crown in 1955 and 1957 while taking second place in
1956. In 1955 he set the state mark with his time of 23.0. Jackson
finished second in the State College Championship as a rookie in
the high jump event in 1954.
