Alan
Butcher '88
Men's Lacrosse
Hometown: West Chester, PA
High School: West Chester East
The four-year starter who slashed the nets of opponents from 1985-88,
set virtually every Golden Ram record that stands today. Butcher collected
a then-team record 155 goals in his four seasons - he is now second all-time
behind Frank Collova (185 - 1993-96).
He led the Golden Rams in goals in all four of his seasons, including
a career high 54 in 1987. It was that same year when Butcher slashed the
net 10 times vs. Haverford College to set the all-time single-game goal
mark.
But Butcher wasn’t just a goal scorer. His ability to find teammates
with crisp passes helped him record 131 career assists - a record that
still stands at WCU. He holds the single-game record for assists with
nine, setting up nine teammates against East Stroudsburg in 1985.
From 1985-88, Butcher accumulated 286 points, setting the all-time career
scoring mark that remains the Golden Ram benchmark. His 85 points in 1988
still stands as the single-season high. In fact, he is the only Golden
Ram men’s player to ever crack the 80-point mark in a single campaign.
As a rookie in 1985, he posted 34 goals and 34 assists for a team-best
68 points. In fact, he led the team in scoring in each of his four years,
totaling 55 as a sophomore in 1986 and 78 as a junior in 1987.
