Dollarton ‘51
3-Time All-American Soccer Player
Hometown: Philadelphia, PA
High School: Northeast Catholic (Now North Catholic)
More than 50 years ago Louis Dollarton roamed the fields
of West Chester State Teachers College as one of the greatest players
in school history. Three times during his Golden Ram varsity career
Dollarton was selected as an All-American for his outstanding play.In
the fall of 1950 as the team’s co-captain with Ralph Stern,
he guided the Golden Rams to the Collegiate Soccer National Championship
after his squad posted an 8-0-0 record. The Golden Rams were so
dominating that season that they allowed just five goals while
tallying 32.
The 1950 season saw West Chester defeat LaSalle 10-1, while Dollarton
led the Golden Rams to wins over Panzer, Maryland, East Stroudsburg,
Penn State, Penn, Baltimore and Delaware.
Dollarton’s impact was so impressive that the NCAA selected
his photo for the cover of the 1951 Official NCAA Soccer Guide.
A 1951 graduate of West Chester State Teachers College with a degree
in education, Dollarton entered the Air Force after leaving Golden
Ram Country. He then returned to the Philadelphia area to earn
his masters degree in education from Temple University.
Dollarton spent 31 years with the School District of Philadelphia
as a teacher, administrator and vice-principal. He worked with
underprivileged and trouble children throughout his career. Dollarton
passed away in 1994.
