Tony DeRemer Head Coach
West Chester University tabbed Tony DeRemer as the first NCAA Division II women’s rugby varsity head coach in the nation during the summer of 2004.
DeRemer, who coached the club program at WCU for nearly a decade, brings a field full of experience as he prepares to erect a varsity program from scratch. In the spring of 2005, he guided the Golden Rams to the USARugby Sweet 16 in Florida.
DeRemer began his club head coaching career at WCU in the fall of 1996 and remained with the squad until it was disbanded last spring in preparation for a varsity-level program. Under his guidance, the WCU club program captured numerous tournament championships and won several local and territorial union titles.
DeRemer’s club coaching career has produced four USA Collegiate All-Americans, while in the summer of 2003 he served on the staff of the USA women’s under-23 national team.
His credentials include a USARugby Level II Coaching Accreditation and a USA Level C2 Referee Certification.
Since the fall of 1993, DeRemer has played competitive rugby with the highly-regarded Brandywine Rugby Club. He also spent time with the South Jersey Men’s Rugby Club (1990-93) and was president and captain of the West Chester University men’s rugby club program for four years (1986-90) while attending WCU.
A native of Carlisle, PA, DeRemer is a graduate of Carlisle High School in Central Pennsylvania.
