Assistant Athletic Director
Barbara Cleghorn
Barbara
Cleghorn begins her sixth year as the assistant director of athletics
for eligibility and compliance at West Chester University. She
also serves as the institution’s senior women’s athletic administrator.
Cleghorn serves on many WCU and PSAC committees. She is the chair
of the NCAA Division II Men’s & Women’s Swimming/Diving
Rules Committees.
A graduate of West Chester University, Cleghorn returned to her
alma mater after serving in a similar role at Southern Connecticut State
University in New Haven, CT. She served at Southern Connecticut State
from March of 1997 until accepting her current position.
Cleghorn’s extensive background in collegiate athletics includes
positions at Temple University and Drexel University. She served as the
associate athletic director at Temple where she oversaw 11 men’s
and women’s athletic programs. She also served as the women’s
athletic director and head women’s swimming coach at Drexel for
many years.
Prior to fulfilling her role at Temple, Cleghorn was the director
of women’s athletics and an associate professor of physical education
at Drexel University. From September 1981 through June 1991, she served
as the assistant athletic director and head women’s swimming coach.
A 1971 graduate of West Chester University and a member of the
WCU Athletic Hall of Fame, Cleghorn earned her undergraduate degree
in health, physical education and recreation, and she received her master’s
degree in human resource development from Drexel.
As a member of the Golden Ram swim team, Cleghorn was an All-American
and National Champion who received MVP honors. She was a 10-time national
swimming finalist and was an Olympic trial finalist in the butterfly
and individual medley.
Cleghorn and her husband, Earl, an associate director of athletics
at the University of Pennsylvania, reside in Chadds Ford, PA.
